‘‘Creating art makes me feel good, this is news I want to share with everyone. Art should never be judged only enjoyed, it’s a portal to feelings.”
— Sarah McNulty, Connecting Artists 2024 Participant
My name is Sarah McNulty, I am 29 years old and I am living in Clonakilty, Co. Cork.
I have always enjoyed creating art. Ceramics were my first creative step, and I made some beautiful pieces, with the support of my teacher, Terry O'Farrell.
We moved here during the end of "lockdown" and lived in an area where there was very bad internet connection. With non-existent screen time, I started painting stones collected from the beach. I found this very relaxing, like a meditation. Here in Clonakilty, I attend the local Resource Centre, where we work on our own pieces in a relaxed environment.
It was here where I had my first exhibition in 2022, and sold a few paintings. Once a week I attend an art class with Pauline Walsh and again it is very much a case of being provided with a great space to let the creativity flow, with support when needed. She plays great music too. Last year on Culture Night we exhibited our work in Pauline's studio. I was delighted to sell two paintings.
In 2022 my portrait of Michael D. Higgins, represented Cork in the Credit Union Art Competition. In this same competition in 2023 my painting of the local lifeboat was a winner in Clonakilty.
Creating art makes me feel good, this is news I want to share with everyone. Art should never be judged only enjoyed, it’s a portal to feelings. I want to use this wonderful opportunity in Connecting Artists 2024 to encourage everyone to give it a try and also to share my work with more people.
