‘‘I am dedicated to my art and I spend alot of time painting. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn new techniques, connect with other artists and form new friendships on the Connecting Artists Programme.
— Matthew Sexton, Connecting Artists 2023 Participant.
My name is Matthew Sexton and I am a 34-year-old artist with an intellectual disability and Autistic Syndrome Disorder. I am originally from Kenmare, Co. Kerry but have lived in Cork for several years. I live in an apartment attached to a house, sharing the space with four other men.
Art, painting, gardening, and music bring me joy. Art runs in my family. My younger brother is an art teacher. I enjoy painting on canvas and depicting people and animals. I love to share my art as gifts to people I love.
I have already showcased my work at three exhibitions in 2013, 2015, and 2018, and I look forward to my next showcase in July as one of ten artists from the Connecting Artists programme. I also recently launched my own Instagram account to share my artwork with more people.
